BIOGRAPHY
Stephen Benson is very active on the New York music scene.
He is comfortable in a variety of musical settings from jazz and classical music to rock, folk, blues, rhythm and blues and Broadway.
His performance and recording experience includes Natalie Cole, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Phoebe Snow, John Sebastian, Take 6, Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey, Harry Connick Jr., Fontella Bass, Sutton Foster, Jane Krakowski, Garrison Keillor, The New York Philharmonic, The Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, The Philadelphia Orchestra, Orchestra of St. Lukes, NYC Ballet Orchestra and the American Symphony.
He has been a regular performer at the Grand Canyon Music Festival and has performed at the Carnival of Venice with Evelyn Blakey. He toured Europe for two years as a member of the Giora Feidman Trio and did a world tour of A Chorus Line.
Most recently he has performed in the Broadway shows of Aladdin, Chicago, On Your Feet, Fiddler on the Roof and The Lion King.
He was the first jazz guitar instructor at The Hartt School of Music under the direction of Jackie McLean and is presently
on the jazz faculty at Montclair State University. He recently conducted a jazz guitar workshop at the Mahwah, NJ Les Paul Museum and teaches privately in person and on line. He currently lives in New York City with his wife and twins.
